It all started with a phone call to a mate…
And a life was saved.
A simple comment promoting mental health said at the end of a fun Tiktok, was what made a man reach out and call his mate. He got the help he needed in the darkest moment of his life.
The man who made the Tiktok and founded the #CallYaMate movement is Mount Isa Boilermaker, Craig Scriven, who goes by @isa_minelife on Tiktok.
What #CallYaMate is about
The #CallYaMate hashtag brings together all kinds of social media content from different creators that have a positive mental health outlook. (or as Craig says, they’re good kunts)
When you see #CallYaMate content you can expect to have a laugh, be inspired, and feel good.
#CallYaMate is making an impact
It reaches beyond social media as a reminder to:
Call on your mates when you need help, and
Check in on your mates regularly if they need someone to talk to.
With the hope being that by having a good support system around us, we can nip mental health issues in the bud.
This should take pressure off the mental health system so those people who really need access to professional help can get it quicker.
